Notes:
Shrewsbury's Old Racecourse is the most widely published venue for this match, however a match report from "Eddowes's Journal, and General Advertiser for Shropshire, and the Principality of Wales" notes that the match took place on the Shrewsbury Town ground (which at the time would have been Ambler's Field). Attendance is variously recorded as 3,000, 4,000 and 5,000 by different sources.

It's at least questionable, that the game was played at Old Racecourse.

The "Eddowes's Journal, and General Advertiser for Shropshire, and the Principality of Wales" (what a name for a newspaper) states: "Contrary to general expectation, the match took place on the Shrewsbury Town ground, but it is questionable whether it would not have been a wiser proceeding to have made arrangements for the match to take place on the Racecourse, a better place than which - with proper precautions being made for the convenience of the spectators - could not be found.

No name for the ground is given, but according to Simon Inglis' book Shrewsbury Town played at "Ambler's Field" since 1889 (until 1893).

About the spectators it also says: "By the time announced for the kick-off - three o'clock - the ropes were comfortably lined, about 4,000 people, as nearly as could be estimated, being present.
