Biography:
Northern Ireland's most exiting player throughout the '90s, Michael Hughes will be best remembered for his goals to give us the lead against Germany in 1992 and 1997. Northern Ireland were denied Michael Hughes' talents for almost a year as he was forced out of football due to a contractual despute between Wimbledon and Birmingham - perhaps unsurprisingly his absense coincided with the infamous goal-drought!
Hughes' international career ended in ignominous fashion as he was red carded following an altercation with Wales' Robbie Savage. He continued to bowl around midfield for Championship Crystal Palace until the summer of 2007 when he was signed by Coventry, managed ex-club and country teammate Iain Dowie. It was announced in March 2008 that his contract would not be renewed at the end of the season.

Hughes joined up with former Northern Ireland, Manchester City and West Ham teammate Steve Lomas as St Neots Town as player-coach. He made his debut against Newport Pagnell on 24 March 2009. In March 2011 he became a major shareholder and joined the board back at his first club, Carrick Rangers. He was appointed temporary manager that December following the departure of Stephen Small before being given the role on a permanent basis in February though could not save them from relegation. He resigned as manager in September 2013 citing other commitments, but retained his position as the club's chief executive.
