Biography:
Jack Doherty was much sought after while playing with Combination side Park End. He was wanted by Middlesbrough but instead decided to remain at home to sign with Belfast Celtic. His stay at Paradise was brief and he returned to Park End. Doherty joined Intermediate League side Woodburn for the 1925/26 season.

Portadown’s amateur international, John Doherty was included in the experimental Ireland side that took on France, at Buffalo in Paris, in February 1928.

Capable at both inside-forward and wing-half, Doherty later played in the Football League with Charlton Athletic.
